Family Sponsorship Update: 2025 Invitations Set to Roll Out for Parents and Grandparents

Family Sponsorship Update: 2025 Invitations Set to Roll Out for Parents and Grandparents

If you wish to reunite with your parents or grandparents in Canada permanently, this summer brings important news. The Canadian government has announced that invitations to apply under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will be issued beginning July 28, 2025.

17,860 Invitations Expected for 2025

Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin sending out 17,860 invitations to people who want to sponsor their parents or grandparents. The goal is to accept 10,000 complete sponsorship applications this year.

However, only those who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form back in 2020 will be considered. The government has not reopened this form for new submissions since that year.

Understanding the Parents and

Grandparents Sponsorship Program

The PGP gives eligible Canadians the chance to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency, supporting long-term family reunion. However, due to high demand, government uses a randomized lottery system for invitations to apply. You must receive an invitation before submitting an application.

Income Requirement for Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents (PGP): 2025 Intake

To sponsor your parents or grandparents under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for 2025, you must demonstrate that you met the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirement for each of the three tax years before you apply. These income thresholds vary depending on your family size, including the number of people you already support and those you plan to sponsor.

Here are the required income levels for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 tax years:

Family Size 2024 2023 2022
2 people $47,549 $44,530 $43,082
3 people $58,456 $54,743 $52,965
4 people $70,972 $66,466 $64,306
5 people $80,496 $75,384 $72,935
6 people $90,784 $85,020 $82,259
7 people $101,075 $94,658 $91,582
For each additional person, add: $10,291 $9,636 $9,324

Didn’t Receive an Invitation? Consider the Super Visa
